JAMB has announced the schedule for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and Direct Entry (DE) registration, and candidates are gearing up for the challenge. Here are the key dates to note:
The sale of UTME application documents kicks off on January 19, 2026, and runs until February 26, 2026. Registration for UTME follows shortly after, from January 26, 2026, to February 28, 2026. If you’re considering Direct Entry, the sale of DE application documents begins on March 2, 2026. The mock exam is scheduled for April 10, 2026, while the main UTME exam dates are April 16-25, 2026. Results are expected to be released on May 7, 2026.
To register, candidates must have a valid National Identification Number (NIN) and meet the required eligibility criteria. Registration will take place at JAMB-accredited Computer-Based Test (CBT) centers nationwide.
The performance of students in JAMB exams has been a topic of discussion in recent years, with a significant majority scoring below 200 out of 400. In 2025, 78.5% of candidates scored below 200, while 21.5% scored above 200. This trend is consistent with previous years, with 76% scoring below 200 in 2024 and 77.8% in 2022.
A closer look at the statistics reveals some interesting trends. Candidates scoring 300 and above increased to 0.88% in 2025, up from 0.46% in 2024 and 0.35% in 2023. Those scoring 250 and above also saw an improvement, with 6.08% in 2025, up from 4.18% in 2024 and 3.73% in 2023. Additionally, 29.3% of candidates scored 200 and above in 2025, compared to 24% in 2024 and 23.36% in 2023.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) attributes the performance to factors like technical glitches, curriculum misalignment, and systemic educational decay. Some stakeholders suggest that the results reflect genuine candidate performance, while others point to issues with exam administration and logistics.
So, how can Nigerian students prepare for JAMB? Understanding the exam structure and syllabus is key. Here’s a breakdown of what you need to do:
Before registration, ensure you obtain your National Identification Number (NIN), create a valid email address and phone number, choose your desired course and preferred institutions, verify the correct subject combinations for your course, acquire the JAMB e-PIN, and locate an accredited CBT center.
For study preparation, develop a structured study plan, allocating time to each subject. Gather quality study materials, including JAMB-approved textbooks and past questions. Practice with past questions and mock exams to build confidence and identify weaknesses. Focus on understanding concepts rather than memorization. Use online resources, such as JAMB’s official website and educational apps, to supplement your studies. Join study groups or online forums for support and motivation.
When it comes to exam strategies, familiarize yourself with the CBT interface, develop time management skills, allocating 40-50 seconds per question, read instructions carefully, and manage your time effectively. Answer easier questions first, then move to more challenging ones, and stay calm and focused during the exam.
Additional tips include starting your preparation early, at least 3-4 months before the exam, attending tutorial classes or joining online coaching programs for expert guidance, taking care of your physical and mental health, getting enough sleep and exercise, avoiding distractions, and staying motivated with a study buddy or accountability partner.
With these tips and strategies, Nigerian students can feel more confident and prepared for the JAMB exam.
