Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has announced the immediate employment of children of fallen servicemen in the state as part of the 2026 Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day activities. This move is aimed at providing direct socio-economic support to the families of deceased servicemen and improving the welfare of members of the Nigerian Legion and their dependents.
Governor Fubara directed the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba, to ensure prompt implementation of the employment directive. He also launched the 2026 Emblem Appeal Fund with a donation of ₦100 million, demonstrating his administration’s commitment to supporting military veterans and their families.
Other governors also paid tribute to the Nigerian military, emphasizing the importance of supporting their welfare and families. Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State urged corporate organizations and private individuals to support Nigeria’s armed forces, while Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening the state’s security architecture
