FG Vows Transparent National Census, Stresses Due Process Over Speed

The Federal Government has pledged to conduct a credible, transparent, and internationally acceptable national census, emphasizing that due process will not be sacrificed for speed.

The assurance came from the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, on Tuesday during a courtesy visit by NPC Chairman Dr Aminu Yusuf and his management team.

Speaking on the importance of accurate population data for planning, Idris said, “Development would be impossible without reliable demographic figures.

” I want to reaffirm the commitment of the Federal Government led by President Bola Tinubu to delivering a credible, transparent, and internationally acceptable national census, anchored on effective public communication and inter-agency collaboration.”

He added that his ministry and agencies, including the National Orientation Agency, Nigerian Television Authority, Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, Voice of Nigeria, and News Agency of Nigeria, are prepared to lead nationwide advocacy once the President issues the official census proclamation.

Idris urged the NPC to use government media platforms for continuous public education, ensuring Nigerians are well-informed and actively engaged in the process.
