The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has applauded actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele after her latest film, Behind the Scenes, set a new benchmark for Nollywood at the box office.
The film has surpassed ₦2.2 billion in Nigeria, making it the first Nollywood production to cross the ₦2 billion milestone. According to NOA, Behind the Scenes has also performed strongly internationally, grossing over $111,256 in Canada and $190,249 across North America.
“Funke Akindele remains in front with Behind the Scenes. Big screens, big stars, and even bigger numbers! She did not just break records, she shattered them,” NOA said in a statement on X, highlighting the film’s success both at home and abroad.

The agency added, “Her latest movie has officially crossed ₦2.1 billion at the Nigerian box office, making history as the first Nollywood film ever to hit the ₦2 billion mark. From Lagos to Toronto, from cinemas in Abuja to theatres overseas — this movie had everyone locked in.”
NOA noted that the film’s record-breaking performance cements it as the highest-grossing Nollywood film of all time in Africa, the United Kingdom, and Ireland. The milestone also marks Akindele as the first filmmaker to top the African box office for three consecutive years.
“This big win proves that Nigerian stories are going global,” the agency concluded, underscoring the growing international reach and influence of Nollywood.
