FRSC Warns Motorists Against One-Way Driving on Lagos–Ibadan Expressway

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has intensified warnings to motorists using the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, stressing that driving against traffic amid ongoing repair works on the Kara Bridge will attract sanctions.

The Lagos Sector Commander of the FRSC, Kehinde Hamzat, issued the warning on Monday during an on-the-spot assessment of the heavy traffic congestion along the busy corridor.

He said the Corps would not tolerate any form of traffic violation, even by security or government officials.

Responding to public complaints that some official vehicles were flouting traffic rules, Hamzat described the conduct as unacceptable and a clear abuse of office.

“It is wrong. Many times, we take some of their details,” he said in a televised interview.

“Like I saw one pass when I was at the Opic turning; we’ve taken the details and we will report appropriately to the man in there.”

Hamzat explained that such cases are often escalated to the management of the affected agencies, noting that internal disciplinary measures are sometimes more severe than the penalties imposed by the FRSC.

“The kind of penalty given by their management is much more than the one we would think we want to give, because it’s a stain on the agency and a stain on the person in question,” he said. “It’s an abuse of office, which is not supposed to be.”

The FRSC urged all motorists to comply with traffic regulations to ease congestion and ensure safety while repair works on the Kara Bridge continue.
