The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has hit a major milestone, reaching its full designed capacity of 650,000 barrels of crude oil per day (bpd) and becoming the first refinery globally to achieve full nameplate capacity in a single train of that scale.
This achievement follows the optimization of its Crude Distillation Unit (CDU) and Motor Spirit (MS) production block, strengthening steady-state operations at Africa’s largest oil refining facility.
The refinery has commenced a 72-hour performance test run with technology licensor UOP to validate operational efficiency and confirm global standards.
CEO David Bird praised the team’s precision and expertise, stating they’re committed to producing high-quality refined products, transforming Nigeria’s energy landscape, and positioning the nation as a net exporter of petroleum products.
The refinery can now deliver up to 75 million liters of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) daily, up from 45-50 million liters during the festive period. Analysts estimate that full operation could save Nigeria up to $10 billion annually in foreign exchange, create thousands of jobs, and enhance regional energy security.
