APC, NNPP Slam US Over Kwankwaso Sanctions Bid

The All Progressives Congress (APC) and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) have rejected the proposed visa bans and asset freezes recommended by United States lawmakers against ex-Kano State Governor, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, and the Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore over alleged violations of religious freedoms in Nigeria.

The APC criticized the proposed sanctions, arguing that allegations alone cannot justify curtailing Kwankwaso’s freedom of movement without a fair hearing and due process.

APC Director of Publicity, Bala Ibrahim, stated that the US should not act solely based on allegations, emphasizing that America is a symbol of democracy and freedom.

The NNPP described the planned censure of its national leader as blackmail, expressing shock over Kwankwaso’s inclusion in the proposed sanctions list.

The Kwankwasiyya Movement has rejected the inclusion of its leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso

The party defended Kwankwaso’s record as governor, highlighting his efforts to combat Boko Haram and his close relationships with Christian leaders.

The proposed bill, titled ‘The Nigeria Religious Freedom and Accountability Act of 2026’, recommends visa bans and asset freezes under the Global Magnitsky Human Rights Accountability Act against individuals and entities accused of involvement in religious freedom abuses.
