The Federal Government has commenced the evacuation of Nigerians in Iran, escorting those who wish to leave across the Armenia border as regional tensions escalate.
The move follows coordinated military strikes on Iran by the United States and Israel on February 28, which prompted retaliatory missile and drone attacks across parts of the Middle East.

Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), said Nigerian embassy officials in Tehran are overseeing the evacuation to ensure safe passage for all willing citizens.
“Willing Nigerians being escorted across the Armenian border by officials of the Nigerian embassy in Iran for safe passage,” Dabiri-Erewa posted, adding that no Nigerian has been affected by the conflict so far.
She noted that repatriation flights remain impossible due to unsafe airspace but reassured citizens that a Federal Government crisis response team is on standby to conduct evacuations once flights can safely resume.
