Trossard Goal Sees Arsenal Edge West Ham 1-0

Arsenal moved to the brink of a first Premier League title in 22 years after a 1-0 win at West Ham on Sunday, surviving a late VAR controversy to keep control of the 2025/26 title race.

Leandro Trossard struck the winner in the 83rd minute at the London Stadium, finishing Martin Ødegaard’s cutback to give Mikel Arteta’s side a crucial three points. The result takes Arsenal to 82 points from 37 matches, five clear of Manchester City with two games remaining.

West Ham thought they had snatched a late equalizer in the 95th minute through Callum Wilson, but VAR ruled it out for a foul on goalkeeper David Raya. Referee Chris Kavanagh disallowed the goal after reviewing Pablo’s challenge in the build-up.

The victory means Arsenal can clinch the title at home to Burnley on Monday, May 18, if City drop points to Crystal Palace in midweek. Even if City win, Arsenal will secure the championship with a win against Burnley and go into the final day against Crystal Palace with the trophy already confirmed.

City, who beat Brentford 3-0 on Saturday, have three games left against Crystal Palace, Bournemouth and Aston Villa. They also face Chelsea in the FA Cup final next Saturday.

Arsenal’s last league title came in the 2003/04 “Invincibles” season. A win over Burnley at the Emirates would end a 22-year wait and crown Arteta’s side in front of their own supporters.

The Gunners’ run-in has been boosted by Champions League form, with Tuesday’s semi-final win over Atletico Madrid coming 24 hours after City’s slip against Everton.

For now, the title remains in Arsenal’s hands. With two games to go, the Gunners have turned the pressure back on Pep Guardiola’s side.
