The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, says the five legislative bye-elections conducted across Gombe, Kano, Bauchi and Delta States have provided vital operational lessons ahead of the 2027 General Election.
INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, SAN, stated this on Saturday while personally presiding over operations at the Commission’s National Situation Room at its headquarters in Abuja.
The elections were conducted in the Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency in Gombe State; Dawakin Kudu State Constituency in Kano; Sakwa and Disina State Constituencies in Bauchi; and Udu State Constituency in Delta State.
At the end of the polls, the All Progressives Congress, APC, won four of the five seats, while the Allied Peoples Movement, APM, won one seat in Bauchi State.
In Gombe, APC candidate Kallamu MaiJama’a won the Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency with 41,121 votes.
In Kano, APC candidate Husseini Datti won the Dawakin Kudu State Constituency seat with 22,890 votes.
In Bauchi, APC candidate Yakubu Ali won the Disina State Constituency with 5,846 votes, while APM candidate Adamu Yakubu won the Sakwa State Constituency with 8,515 votes.
In Delta, APC candidate Okolosi Ator emerged winner of the Udu State Constituency election with 8,724 votes.
Speaking on the significance of the polls, Professor Amupitan said the bye-elections should not be viewed as routine exercises, describing them as important dress rehearsals for the 2027 General Election.
He said the elections would enable INEC to continuously assess its logistics framework, technological deployment and administrative readiness ahead of the nationwide polls.
The INEC Chairman also said operational challenges identified before polling were promptly addressed through the Commission’s monitoring and crisis-resolution mechanisms.
He reaffirmed INEC’s commitment to refining its processes to ensure greater efficiency and public confidence in subsequent elections.
Professor Amupitan, who was accompanied by National Commissioners and senior management officials, also commended the technical team at the National Situation Room for ensuring seamless monitoring of the multi-state exercise.
The Commission says lessons from the five bye-elections will contribute to its broader preparations for the 2027 General Election.
