Dachomo: My Prayer for Tinubu Not 2027 Endorsement

Reverend Ezekiel Dachomo has denied supporting President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, following public criticism over prayers he reportedly offered for the President during a visit to Israel.

The cleric’s position has generated debate on social media, with some Nigerians questioning the apparent shift in tone from his earlier criticism of the Federal Government over persistent insecurity and attacks on communities in Plateau State.

Dachomo had previously raised concerns about the security situation in Plateau and criticised the administration’s handling of the killings affecting communities in the state.

However, videos of prayers for Nigeria and its leaders, including President Tinubu, circulated online following his visit to Israel in early October, triggering speculation about his political position.

The controversy attracted further attention after social media activist VeryDarkMan questioned the cleric’s apparent change of tone, drawing comparisons between his earlier criticism of the administration and the prayers reportedly offered for the President.

In response, Dachomo reportedly clarified that his prayers were not an endorsement of Tinubu’s 2027 presidential ambition. He maintained that praying for the President and the country should not be interpreted as campaigning for a political candidate.

The cleric also reportedly warned against using his name to promote Tinubu’s re-election bid.

The development has reignited discussions about the role of religious leaders in Nigeria’s political space, particularly the distinction between offering prayers for public officeholders and openly endorsing their political ambitions.

While critics have questioned the apparent inconsistency between Dachomo’s earlier remarks and his recent actions, there is no verified evidence establishing that he received money or entered into a political agreement with the Tinubu administration.

The controversy leaves a central question for public debate: can a religious leader pray for a sitting president without being perceived as supporting his re-election?

For now, Dachomo’s reported position is that his prayers are for Nigeria and its people, not an endorsement of Tinubu’s 2027 presidential campaign.
