The Confederation of African Football (CAF) is investigating alleged misconduct by players and officials during the AFCON 2025 quarter-finals between Cameroon and Morocco, and Algeria and Nigeria. The probe follows reports of confrontations with referees and disruptions in post-match areas. CAF has collected match reports and video evidence, suggesting potentially unacceptable behaviour, and has referred the matters to the Disciplinary Board for review.
CAF recently sanctioned Equatorial Guinea’s captain Carlos Akapo and forward Josete Miranda with a four-game ban for referee abuse during a match against Sudan. Additionally, Ghanaian assistant referee David Laryea received a lifetime ban, and seven other Ghanaian officials were banned for 10 years for their involvement in a bribery scandal.
The investigations may result in fines, suspensions, or other disciplinary actions against players, officials, or teams found guilty of misconduct.
