FCT Area Council Elections Peaceful- Olusola Odumosu

The Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Olusola Odumosu, has reported a calm security environment across the Federal Capital Territory as voting continues in Saturday’s Area Council elections.

Speaking to journalists after inspecting polling units in different parts of the FCT, Odumosu said security assessments from the field showed an orderly process, with voters and officials conducting themselves peacefully.

“We have gone round and we have seen for ourselves and for me and for the security community, I can tell you that everything is going smoothly,” he said.

He said polling centres visited recorded no security threats, attributing the calm atmosphere to early planning and extensive deployment of security personnel.

“No cause for alarm. The voters conducted themselves in a very orderly manner as well as the security agencies,” Odumosu said.
“Apparently, before now, we have made very massive deployments to all the area councils, and you could tell from all the places we have been.”

The NSCDC commandant noted that election security remains dynamic, adding that agencies continually adjust their strategies to address emerging risks unique to each electoral cycle.

While expressing confidence in the conduct of the polls so far, Odumosu said security forces remain vigilant as voting winds down and collation of results begins.

“So far, I can tell that this area council election is going on smoothly. We are only awaiting the elections to be concluded, and by the time the results are announced, that will be another phase,” he said.
“From what we have seen, I don’t envisage any violence or chaos immediately after the election result is announced. But if there is to be any, we are duty-bound to arrest the situation.”

He stressed that the deployment of security operatives across polling units was preventive and strategic, aimed at maintaining public safety and protecting the integrity of the electoral process.
