The Federal Fire Service (FFS) has released its 2025 annual report, highlighting significant achievements in saving lives and protecting property amidst rising fire incidents across Nigeria.
According to the report, the FFS saved 2,106 lives and property worth N934.70 billion in various fire incidents nationwide.
The statistics, presented by FFS Deputy Controller-General Ijeoma Achi-Okidi, revealed 1,866 fire incidents, resulting in 114 fatalities and 198 civilian injuries, alongside five firefighters injured.
The estimated property loss stood at N74.75 billion, indicating the FFS successfully protected about 92.59% of the total value at risk.

Breakdown of Fire Incidents by Premises Type
- Private Residences: 693 cases
- Public Buildings: 444 cases
- Markets and Trading Centers: 190 fires
- Vehicles/Automobiles: 177 fires
- Other Premises: 105 cases
Fatalities and Property Loss
- Markets and Trading Centers: 39 deaths, N22.27 billion property loss
- Private Residences: N14.67 billion property loss
- Public/Government Buildings: 18 deaths, N11 billion property loss
- Educational Institutions: N8.16 billion property loss
- Fuel/Gas Stations: N4.92 billion property loss
The leading cause of fire incidents was electrical-related issues, accounting for nearly 70% of all fires recorded in 2025. FFS Controller General Samuel Olumode emphasized the service’s commitment to intensifying efforts in ensuring safety and protecting lives and property.
