The Federal Government of Nigeria has declared Thursday, March 19, and Friday, March 20, 2026, as public holidays to mark the Eid-el-Fitr celebration, which signifies the end of the Ramadan fast.
The announcement was made in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Magdalene Ajani.
According to the statement, the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who approved the declaration on behalf of the Federal Government, congratulated Muslim faithful on the successful completion of the holy month of Ramadan.
He urged adherents to uphold the values of love, generosity, peace, tolerance, and sacrifice cultivated during the fasting period.
The minister also called on Nigerians to use the festive season to pray for national peace, unity, and sustained development.
While wishing Muslims a joyful celebration, Tunji-Ojo encouraged citizens to celebrate responsibly and extend kindness to the less privileged.
The statement added that the Federal Government remains committed to fostering national unity and promoting peaceful coexistence across the country.
