Gunmen Strike Again: Benue Links Bus Attacked, 3 Injured

Commuters are facing increasing insecurity on the roads following an attack on a Benue Links bus, which resulted in injuries to three passengers. The incident occurred on January 10, 2026, at approximately 7:00 pm in the Burnt Bricks area of Otukpo, as the bus was traveling from Gboko to Otukpo. The injured individuals are currently receiving medical attention at the Federal University of Health Sciences Teaching Hospital, Otukpo.

Benue Links, a transportation company owned by the Benue State Government since February 1988, has confirmed the incident. The General Manager, Alexander Fanafa, assured that the company will cover the medical expenses of the victims and provide necessary support. This incident is part of a disturbing trend of attacks on commercial vehicles in the region, including:

June 2025: Kidnapping of 12 passengers on a Benue Links bus in Okpokwu Local Government Area

April 2025: Fatal attack on a Benue Links bus, resulting in the death of the driver and kidnapping of 14 passengers

November 2025: Bandits hijacked a commercial vehicle, killing the driver and abducting five passengers

In response, Benue Links has reiterated its policy prohibiting night travel and is collaborating with security agencies to enhance passenger safety.
