Florida has moved to rename a major international gateway after US President Donald Trump, following legislative approval of a bill redesignating Palm Beach International Airport in his honour.
The Republican-controlled Florida legislature on Thursday passed the measure to rename the facility “President Donald J. Trump International Airport,” according to official state records.
The bill now awaits the signature of Governor Ron DeSantis, who is expected to sign it into law despite having once contested Trump politically.
Before the change can take effect, the proposal must also secure clearance from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), which oversees airport designations and aviation standards nationwide.

The airport is located in Palm Beach, just minutes from Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate, reinforcing the symbolic significance of the move in a state widely regarded as central to his political stronghold.
If approved by federal authorities, the renamed airport would become one of several prominent institutions associated with Trump’s name.
Known globally for attaching his brand to real estate projects, Trump’s imprint has increasingly extended into public institutions.
In December, the board of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts voted to adopt the name “Trump-Kennedy Center,” adding his name to the Washington-based arts complex and memorial dedicated to former President John F. Kennedy.
Other reported attempts to rename New York’s Penn Station and Washington’s Dulles International Airport after Trump, however, did not materialise, according to US media reports.
Meanwhile, the US Treasury Department has acknowledged that draft designs have been prepared for a commemorative $1 coin bearing Trump’s image, a proposal that has sparked debate, as federal law bars the depiction of a sitting or living president on US currency.
