The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has revised the timeline for its 2025/2026 academic session loan applications, granting prospective beneficiaries additional time by extending the deadline to February 27, 2026.
The adjustment was confirmed in a statement released in Abuja on Thursday, which noted that the initial January 31, 2026 cutoff has been shifted to accommodate students who need more time to complete the application process.
NELFUND’s Director of Strategic Communications, Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, said the extension was approved to ensure that eligible candidates are not excluded because of logistical or timing challenges.
“The Nigerian Education Loan Fund has announced an extension of the application deadline for the 2025/2026 academic session from January 31, 2026, to February 27, 2026,” the statement read.

Commenting on the decision, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NELFUND, Akintunde Sawyerr, said the move aligns with the Fund’s objective of promoting equitable access to education funding across the country.
“This extension reflects our commitment to inclusivity and access. We understand that some applicants may require additional time to complete their submissions, and this decision ensures that every eligible Nigerian student has a fair opportunity to benefit from the Fund,” Sawyerr said.
He urged students who have not yet applied, as well as those with pending or incomplete submissions, to take full advantage of the extended window and ensure that all necessary information is submitted before the new deadline.
NELFUND added that updates and additional guidance will continue to be communicated through its official channels as the application process progresses.
