The political landscape in Rivers State is heating up as Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has reaffirmed that political power is earned through strength and strategic maneuvering. In a recent visit to his native Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, Wike emphasized the significant influence of the region in Rivers State politics, stating that “Power is not handed over; you fight for it”.

Addressing a gathering of party leaders, traditional rulers, women, and youths, Wike reiterated his support for President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid, while also dismissing calls for his removal from office, citing that only the President has the authority to sack him.

With Obio/Akpor’s population of approximately 665,000 people, Wike’s assertion underscores the Local Government Area’s crucial role in shaping Rivers State politics. As tensions continue to simmer, the implications of Wike’s statement on the state’s future remain uncertain.
