President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Monday left Abuja for a state visit to the Republic of Türkiye, as Nigeria moves to deepen diplomatic, economic and strategic ties with the country.
The trip was disclosed by the Special Adviser to the President on Social Media, Dada Olusegun, in a post on X, where he outlined the objectives of the visit.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu departs Abuja today for a state visit to the Republic of Türkiye. The visit is aimed at strengthening the existing cordial relations between the two countries and exploring further areas of cooperation in security, education, social development, innovation, and aviation,” Olusegun said.
Visuals shared with the post showed the President at the airport before his departure. He was accompanied by senior government officials, including the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike; the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila; and Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma.
The visit was earlier confirmed by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, in a statement issued on Sunday titled ‘President Tinubu to undertake state visit to Türkiye.’
Reiterating the purpose of the trip, Onanuga said it was designed to strengthen existing relations and broaden cooperation in critical sectors such as security, education, social development, innovation and aviation.
He added that the visit also serves as a reciprocal gesture following the state visit to Nigeria by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in October 2021.
The visit is expected to reinforce Nigeria–Türkiye relations and unlock new opportunities for collaboration in trade, investment and strategic development.
