Victor Boniface Misses AFCON Due to Knee Injury

Nigerian striker Victor Boniface was notably absent from the Super Eagles’ AFCON 2025 lineup, leaving many fans surprised. The 25-year-old forward had been dealing with a persistent knee issue since last summer, which worsened in December, forcing him to miss Werder Bremen’s final two games of the year. He eventually underwent successful knee surgery on January 10, 2026, in Austria, and will miss the rest of the 2025/26 season. Boniface’s knee injury has been a recurring issue, and he had initially opted against immediate treatment, hoping the condition would stabilize. His loan deal with Werder Bremen remains active until the end of the season, and his salary during recovery will be covered by insurance. Teammates Akor Adams, Bright Osayi-Samuel, Victor Osimhen, and Samuel Chukwueze have sent messages of support and encouragement as he recovers
