US Cautions Nigerians Against Overstaying Visas

The United States has issued a caution to Nigerian travellers, warning that overstaying visas could restrict opportunities for other Nigerians seeking to travel to the country for education, business, or family visits.

The advisory comes amid heightened enforcement and tighter travel regulations under the administration of President Donald Trump.

In a statement shared on X on Monday, the U.S. Mission in Nigeria stressed that compliance with visa rules is essential to ensuring continued access for Nigerians who follow immigration requirements.

“Visa overstays by Nigerian travellers can affect opportunities for their fellow citizens,” the Mission said. “Strengthening compliance helps protect access for students, business travellers and families who travel responsibly.”

The Mission also urged Nigerians to help combat immigration fraud by reporting suspicious activity. Citizens are encouraged to submit information to AbujaFPU@state.gov or LagosFPU@state.gov.
