Tottenham Hotspur Dismiss Thomas Frank Amid Premier League Struggles

Tottenham Hotspur have dismissed Thomas Frank as head coach after a damaging run of Premier League results left the club hovering just above the relegation zone.

The decision follows Tuesday’s 2-1 home defeat to Newcastle, a result that dropped Spurs to 16th place, only five points clear of danger.

The loss extended Tottenham’s winless league run to eight matches, their worst stretch since October 2008.

Across their last 17 Premier League games, Spurs have managed just two wins and 12 points, prompting the club’s hierarchy to act despite earlier backing for the Danish coach.

Confirming the move in a statement on Wednesday, Tottenham said:

“The club has taken the decision to make a change in the men’s head coach position and Thomas Frank will leave today. Thomas was appointed in June 2025, and we have been determined to give him the time and support needed to build for the future together. However, results and performances have led the board to conclude that a change at this point in the season is necessary.”

Frank arrived from London rivals Brentford last June on a contract running until 2028, following the dismissal of Ange Postecoglou. While he struggled to stabilise Spurs’ domestic form, he did oversee a more encouraging European campaign.

Thomas Frank’s tenure at Spurs ends following a 2-1 defeat to Newcastle and ongoing struggles in the league.

Under Frank, Tottenham secured automatic qualification for the Champions League last 16, finishing fourth in their group, a contrast to their domestic difficulties.

His Premier League record this season stood at seven wins, eight draws and 11 defeats.

Despite the outcome, the club acknowledged Frank’s efforts and professionalism during his tenure:

“Throughout his time at the club, Thomas has conducted himself with unwavering commitment, giving everything in his efforts to move the club forward. We would like to thank him for his contribution and wish him every success in the future.”

Tottenham’s struggles have extended beyond the league as the club exited the League Cup in October after a defeat to Newcastle and were knocked out of the FA Cup last month by Aston Villa.

With the season entering a critical phase, Spurs now turn their attention to appointing a new head coach as they seek to halt a slide that has left one of the Premier League’s most high-profile clubs facing an unexpected relegation battle.
