Bam Adebayo produced one of the greatest scoring performances in NBA history on Tuesday, dropping 83 points to lead the Miami Heat to a commanding 150–129 victory over the Washington Wizards.
The remarkable display ranks as the second-highest scoring game in NBA history, surpassing the 81-point performance recorded by the late Kobe Bryant in 2006. Only Wilt Chamberlain’s legendary 100-point game in 1962 stands above it.
Adebayo signaled early that a big night was coming, pouring in 31 points in the first quarter.
He reached 43 points by halftime and added another 19 points in the third quarter, taking his total to 62 and putting Bryant’s long-standing mark within reach.
The Heat star eventually tied Bryant’s record from the free-throw line before adding two more points to reach 83, prompting a standing ovation from fans inside Kaseya Center as he was substituted late in the fourth quarter.
“Man, I wish I could relive it twice,” Adebayo said after the game, calling it the best performance of his career.
“Somebody had to pass me the ball. I appreciate coach for drawing up plays for me and I got it going tonight. This is number one, for sure.”
He added that surpassing the mark of his childhood idol Bryant made the night even more special.
