Yobe APC Chairman: ‘Leave Husband If He Blocks APC Vote’

The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Yobe State, Alhaji Muhammad Gadaka, has reportedly advised women whose husbands may prevent them from voting for the ruling party in the 2027 general elections to leave their marriages.

Gadaka was quoted as saying that any woman whose husband refuses to allow her to vote for the APC should divorce him, promising to pay her bride price and marry her.

“If your husband tells you not to support the APC, divorce him and come out. I will pay your bride price and marry you,” he was quoted as saying.

The statement has sparked reactions online, with several social media users questioning the appropriateness of a senior political party official encouraging married women to consider divorce over political differences.

The remarks are being widely circulated on social media, including posts attributing the statement specifically to the Yobe APC chairman.

The reported comments come as political parties and their supporters begin positioning themselves ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections, with mobilisation and voter engagement expected to intensify in the months ahead.

Gadaka’s reported statement also raises questions about the extent to which political allegiance should influence relationships and family decisions, particularly in a democratic society where citizens are constitutionally entitled to make their electoral choices independently.

The development has continued to generate debate over political loyalty, individual voting rights and the role of political leaders in influencing voters ahead of the 2027 elections.
