Makinde: Justice for Adelabu Sister, Twins Abducted in Oyo

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde visited former Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu.
The visit was on Friday, 5th of June to sympathize with the Minister, Adelabu over the abduction of his sister and her twin sons in Ibadan.


Mrs Busayo Adelabu John-Paul, sister of the former minister, and her 12-year-old twin sons. They were abducted on Wednesday morning in Elewura–Challenge area of Ibadan by gunmen at about 7:30 a.m.
Makinde expressed concern, offered comfort, and assured the family that security agencies were working to secure safe release. He pledged state government’s commitment to identifying, apprehending and bringing those responsible to justice.
The Family members appreciated the gesture and expressed optimism that the victims would be rescued unharmed.

Meanwhile, Oyo APC condemned the abduction and called on Makinde to strengthen collaboration with security agencies.

Also, the kidnapping of schoolchildren/teachers in Oyo State on May 15, 2026, where gunmen attacked three schools in Oriire Local Government Area: Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota; Community Grammar School, Esiele; and L.A. Primary School where about 46 pupils and teachers were abducted.

Governor Makinde later disclosed 39 pupils and 7 teachers were kidnapped. Senate records show 49 people comprising school children, teachers and a toddler.

Teacher Adesiyan Adegboye was killed during the attack. Teacher Michael Oyedokun was reportedly beheaded in captivity.

Governor Makinde visited the affected communities, met families at L.A. Basic School, Ahoro-Esiele. He said security agencies meet twice daily on rescue operations.

Recently, former Ekiti State governor Ayodele Fayose alleged Oyo State’s involvement in the kidnap, an accusation widely regarded as frivolous.

Also, Federal government delegation led by Chief Femi Gbajabiamila visited Oriire LGA on May 31, 2026.

As of reports 1-2 days ago, victims remain in captivity. Nigeria’s president, Bola Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu has directed security agencies to ensure safe rescue.
